TARO NASU is pleased to present “ANDALUCIA 1988”, a solo exhibition by TAIJI MATSUE, opening on October 11.
In 1988, at the age of 25, TAIJI MATSUE travelled to Andalusia, Spain, where he walked through the streets with his camera, capturing the landscape.
The town he encountered was flooded with intense sunlight, revealing a place seemingly devoid of shadows. This journey became a kind of revelation for MATSUE and played a pivotal role in the development of his photographic style. “ANDALUCIA 1988” occupies a crucial position in his body of work, bridging “TRANSIT”, his debut series, and “gazetteer”, the first well-acclaimed and representative series released in the 1990s.
This exhibition presents, for the very first time, the long-unseen and previously unpublished series, “ANDALUCIA 1988”—an elusive body of work now revealed in its entirety.
