TARO NASU is pleased to announce the 5th edition of the group exhibition “gesture, form, technique”, which aims to offer the platform to consider the relationship between the art and modernism design.

It is well known that Jean Prouve and Charlotte Perriand had realized the happy union of the practical use and the beauty in the realm of the modernism furniture design. Their attitude had influence greatly on the following generations including not only the designers but also the artists.

This exhibition suggests both visible and invisible resonance between them, beyond the time of half a century.

Opened in 2005. Aiming to communicate the role that Jean Prouve and Charlotte Perriand played in postwar Japan, it was Asia’s first gallery to specialize in exhibiting the furniture of French designers. A spotlight focused on the works of Junzo Sakakura, Kenzo Tange and Sori Yanagi, all architects and designers from the same time period. Cooperating with national and international galleries and art museums, our activities include exhibition planning, research and the popularization of Japanese design.
