TARO NASU is pleased to present the first solo exhibition by Swiss artist Jean-Frédéric Schnyder.

Jean-Frédéric Schnyder was born in Basel, Switzerland in 1945. After he took part in the legendary exhibition “When attitudes become form” at Kunsthalle Bern 1969, he started to take painting as his main subject. In 1992, he participated in Documenta 5, then in 1993, he represented Switzerland at the Venice Biennale and showed his great presence to the international audience. Despite of his such a long and successful career as the conceptualist, strangely the artist had remained relatively unknown in Japan.

This exhibition will consist of his works from the late 70s to 90s, eleven pieces of paintings and one portfolio. Those will reveal the artist’s vision of painting, painting as the image of imageries in his own versatility, as well as the pictorial languages to survey the history of visual perception.
